Before you can participate in our online communication you have to understand the rules of Digital Citizenship. Read below and write in your words ways you can make sure you being a good digital citizen.
Digital citizenship can be defined as the use of appropriate, responsible during technology use.
1. Digital Access: full electronic participation in society.
Everyone should have equal access to technology and it should be offered anywhere possible.
2. Digital Commerce: electronic buying and selling of goods.
Many people are doing their shopping online. We, as technology users. need to be aware that there are many bad and illegal things that are being sold online. We have to make sure we know what we are buying and that we are using a good website.
3. Digital Communication: electronic exchange of information.
Today we are able to be in touch with anyone, anytime and anywhere using a variety of sources: cell phones, email, chats, instant messaging. We need to make the right choices in communicating and make sure we are using it correctly and appropriately.
4. Digital Literacy: process of teaching and learning about technology and the use of technology.
As technology users in the 21st century we will be using it in almost any job we have in the future. We have to take every opportunity to learn all that we can about technology and we must also help in the teaching of others about technology.
5. Digital Etiquette: electronic standards of conduct or procedure.
We must make sure we are using appropriate behavior when using technology. Any behavior we wouldn't do everyday, we should not do online. We must be careful of the words we use. Anything we wouldn't say in life, we should not say online. We have to be responsible users of technology.
6. Digital Law: electronic responsibility for actions and deeds.
The same as our rules in the classroom have to be followed, so do the rules online. Online we cannot steal other people things (this includes illegal downloading of music and movies). We cannot change anyone's personal information or use information falsely. We cannot hack into places that do not belong to us.
7. Digital Rights & Responsibilities: those freedoms extended to everyone in a digital world.
Just as in the American Constitution where there is a Bill of Rights, people online have rights to freedom of speech and privacy.
8. Digital Health & Wellness: physical and psychological well-being in a digital technology world.
We can develop health problems due to use of technology. Eye problems, stress problems and even addiction to the internet can happen. We need to learn about ways to be safe and how much is too much when using technology.
9. Digital Security (self-protection): electronic precautions to guarantee safety.
In our lives there are people who hurt others, steal from others and damage others things. In our own homes, we put locks on our doors and fire alarms in our houses to provide some protection. The same must be true for the digital security. We need to have protection from outside forces that might cause harm.
Everyone should have equal access to technology and it should be offered anywhere possible.
